This post has taken me FOREVER to get done. My bedroom gets terrible light all day except the morning hours, so it’s been hard to get things picture ready early on. I finally had the chance to take some pics of our room now that it’s finally done. We’ve made changes along the way and moved furniture to find where it fits best. But I think we’ve got the configuration nailed down now. First, when we moved in….we ripped the carpet out and refinished and installed some new hardwood. The room was only partially wood floors as they extended the room out years ago. That’s been the biggest change of all. As you will see, our bedroom has one teeny, tiny, closet. Not even close to being enough for both my husband and I. We tend to have a lot of clothes. haha =) Nothing wrong with that, until you can’t fit them anywhere. Sooooo….we had to get somewhat creative and come up with a solution. Well, if you aren’t familiar with Young House Love’s blog….1.you’re crazy, 2. GET A LIFE will ya? They had the same problem that we had in our bedroom with lack of closet space. They went to IKEA and bought some of their storage systems. I loved how theirs looked (here) and thought I could do something similar. Well, with our very narrow and long space, I had a little trouble and couldn’t really find a good spot. I ended up putting them right as you walked in, so that they kind of disappeared once you were in the room. They aren’t that good looking, so no need to have them as a feature of the room. I think I made the best with what I had. We have a king sized bed that we couldn’t part with, so it basically had only one spot to sit. I had the headboard in our room before, but it was dark and I knew I wanted to spice it up. Nothing better than a mustard yellow. LOOOOVE it! The side tables were also ours before that were very dark wood and just too dark for the room. I painted them white and then sanded them down a bit. Got some PERFECT gold hardware and there you go. Our dresser stayed the same because I love that thing. I just can’t paint that baby quite yet. I like that not every piece is painted anyways. Basically, that’s all there is to it. Add a couple lamps and accessories…and that’s it! Now take a look at the before and after.

Hi Carlye, LOVE your home. Do you know the name of that line at Pottery Barn that the pillows are from? I love them and they would look great on my bed.
Thanks!
